Whipsnakes acquire Max Tuttle from Chrome in exchange for James Barclay and Foster Huggins

On Tuesday afternoon the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced via social media that Whipsnakes LC had complete a trade with Chrome LC, acquiring Max Tuttle in exchange for defensemen Foster Huggins and James Barclay.

Tuttle was the 15th overall pick in the 2019 PLL College Draft, and scored five goals for Chrome in his rookie campaign. While in college at Sacred Heart, Tuttle was the first player in program history to earn an All-America nod, while scoring 58 points in his senior season.

In return, Chrome LC acquires two young defenders that struggled to see consistent playing time for the Whipsnakes in their championship season. Huggins is a former standout at Loyola University where he was named a first-team All-American, Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, and two-time Patriot League First Team. In 2018 Huggins led the country in caused turnovers and turnovers per game.

Barclay started six games for the Whipsnakes last season, after joining them out of Providence University. While at Providence, Barclay was named a unanimous First-Team Big East selection in 2018.

Whipsnakes head coach Jim Stagnitta said he was excited about the size, athleticism and skill set Max Tuttle will bring to the Whipsnakes.

“Having Max [Tuttle], Brad Smith and Zed Williams gives us a lot of flexibility and options,” Stagnitta told Pro Lacrosse Talk.

Chrome head coach Tim Soudan discussed the uncertainty surrounding the college draft as a reason for making the trade.

“We began to worry about filling some spots defensively and the Whips were inquiring about [Max] Tuttle,” Soudan told Pro Lacrosse Talk. “Looking at everything we need and might not get, the timing was good to round out the defense with a trade and hope to fill some offensive spots with the college draft.”

“We are really excited to add [James] Barclay and [Foster] Huggins,” Soudan added. “The move will make us younger and more competitive.”
