Moment of the Decade: Rhys Duch’s OT goal in the 2019 NLL Finals

To recap a monumental decade of pro lacrosse, Pro Lacrosse Talk enlisted members of the lacrosse community to recount the top moments in pro lacrosse from 2010 to 2019. This article was published as part of the “Top Pro Lacrosse Moments of the Decade” series.

Since I’m still fairly new to the pro lacrosse world, I figured I’d go with a moment from the most recent NLL season: the Calgary Roughnecks’ game-winning overtime goal to defeat the Buffalo Bandits in game 2 of the 2019 NLL Finals.

But it wasn’t just Rhys Duch’s goal – that entire game was hands down the best lacrosse game I have ever watched. It was two evenly matched teams with two incredible goaltenders battling it out for a full 60 minutes and then some.

Not only that, but Scotiabank Saddledome was the loudest arena I have ever been in. The energy around the game was just insane and the place erupted when Duch scored in overtime.

I am lucky to have been there to witness it in person and we can only hope to see more games like it this season!

Watch the highlights of the 2019 NLL Championship below to relive the thrilling finish and Calgary Roughnecks’ third NLL title.
