Saskatchewan Rush to the Halifax Thunderbirds in an OT thriller (February 15, 2020)
The February showdown between the then undefeated Halifax Thunderbirds and Saskatchewan Rush was as exciting as everyone hoped. In front of a packed Halifax crowd, the Rush and Thunderbirds traded blows, with the Rush taking a late 15-12 lead with just over three minutes left in regulation.
Yet, the Thunderbirds would come storming back with a late rally that saw Austin Shanks tie the game at 15-15 with 25 seconds left on the clock. The game would head to overtime where the Rush would get the last laugh thanks to a Mike Messenger diving goal. The Rush victory handed the Thunderbirds their first loss of the season and proved to be one of the most exciting games of the eventually shortened season.
Redwoods trades Sergio Salcido to Chaos to acquire Myles Jones (February 29, 2020)
After several days of speculation, the biggest trade in PLL history occurred when the Redwoods dealt Sergio Salcido and a second round draft pick to the Chaos in exchange for Myles Jones. Myles Jones had initially hinted at a trade when he cryptically posted a picture of a bear on his Instagram story. Then came the retired NHL player Mike Commodore’s tweets and Pro Lacrosse Talk’s discovery of the swapped rosters spots on the PLL website that could only be seen as overwhelming evidence that the trade was in the works. The league would officially announce the trade on February 29, and thus began a frantic offseason that saw more trades and player movement through the entry draft.
