On June 17, 2001, the Bridgeport Barrage headed into week two of the MLL’s inaugural season still looking for their first win after dropping the first game 19-13 at the hands of the Boston Cannons.
The second time was a charm for the Barrage as Ted Garber’s squad topped the Bayhawks 12-9 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on June 17, 2001. Led by Roy Colsey and Matt Panetta the Barrage would finish the season 3-11 third place in the MLL’s American Division. Colsey and Panetta tied atop the stat sheet for the Barrage with 41 points.
The Barrage would stay in Bridgeport for three seasons before moving to Philadelphia prior to the 2004 season.
As the head coach of that team, it was a great win vs BayHawks. Jim Mule our GKP was also great between the pipes that day vs the BayHawks juggernaut offense. I am now assistant for NY Lizards 20 years later and have been in the league since the showcase tour as one of the Head Coaches. Time flies when you are having fun. Ted Garber
Great to hear from you Coach! Would love to get your thoughts for a future article (maybe the MLL Summer Showcase) if you’re interested.
