Week three of the 2019 Major League Lacrosse season was a big one for John Grant Jr. as the Denver Outlaw attackman set the MLL all-time scoring record as his team topped the Atlanta Blaze 18-16 in Atlanta on June 8, 2019. Grant Jr. headed into the game with 595 career points, only one point shy of Paul Rabil’s 596.
He would tie Rabil with a first quarter goal before breaking it shortly after. The record-breaking point came when Grant Jr. fed Brendan Kavanagh to give the Outlaws a 6-5 lead early in the second quarter.
Already owning the all-time scoring record, Grant Jr. would add another record before the season was over, passing Rabil again to claim the MLL’s regular season scoring record with 572 points on August 24, 2019.
