Recapping the top MLL draft picks from the past 20 years

Steele Stanwick went second overall to the Ohio Machine, but stepped away from lacrosse after a few seasons. He made his return with his hometown team the Chesapeake Bayhawks in 2018.

2012

Rob Pannell – Long Island Lizards

Rob Pannell was one of the best attackmen on the planet at Cornell. While in college, Pannell collected a Tewaaraton award and finished fourth all-time in points scored at the NCAA level. In MLL, Pannell continued to establish himself as one of the faces of the league. Pannell won an MVP award in 2018, and was a six-time all-star. Pannell recently left the MLL to join the PLL and will play for Atlas LC.

Steele Stanwick – Ohio Machine

If any attackman gave Pannell a run for his money in college, it was Steele Stanwick. Stanwick scored 270 points in 69 games for Virginia and took home a Tewaaraton award and national championship in 2011. Stanwick has collected 203 points in 68 games for the Bayhawks and Machine in his professional career. He also scored critical goals in the Bayhawks playoff run in 2019 that ended with them hoisting the Steinfield trophy.

2013

Peter Baum – Ohio Machine

Another Tewaaraton award-winner, Peter Baum scored 224 points in 61 games for Colgate University. Baum was selected first overall by the Ohio Machine but chose to play in the LXM Pro Tour in 2013. Baum joined the MLL in 2014 and was part of a Ohio Machine team that made back-to-back MLL Championship appearances in 2016 and 2017, winning the title in the latter season.

Chris LaPierre – Hamilton Nationals

After scooping 259 ground balls during his time at Virginia, LaPierre ended up drafted second overall by the Hamilton Nationals. LaPierre would grab 58 ground balls in 32 games in MLL. He was eventually traded to the Lizards following the 2016 season, but never played for them.
