Recapping the top MLL draft picks from the past 20 years

Kyle Dixon was selected second overall by the Washington Bayhawks and spent his entire career with the franchise.

2006

Joe Walters – Rochester Rattlers

After a storied career at Maryland, Joe Walters was selected first overall by the Rochester Rattlers. Walters scored over 300 points in eight MLL seasons and has made a name for himself as one of the best midfielders of all time. He now plays for Redwoods LC in the PLL.

Kyle Dixon – Washington Bayhawks

Kyle Dixon won two championships while at the University of Virginia. After being selected second overall by the Bayhawks, Dixon would go on to win three Steinfeld trophies, all with the Bayhawks. Overall he played in 102 games, scoring 225 points. Dixon retired following his eighth season, playing his entire career with the Bayhawks.

2007

Pat Heim – Chicago Machine

Pat Heim attended Penn State University where he was a three-time, first team ECAC player during his career. After his college career, Heim was taken first overall by the Chicago Machine. Heim made an immediate impact winning MLL rookie of the week after his debut game. Heim scored 157 goals before retiring in 2013.

Kip Turner – Boston Cannons

Kip Turner was selected by the Boston Cannons in 2007, but eventually find most of his pro success with the Bayhawks. Turner lead Chesapeake to back-to-back MLL Championships in 2012 and 2013 and is found in numerous spots in the MLL record book for goalies, including fourth overall in save percentage at 59%. Turner is currently an assistant with Virginia.


David Wildman is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago and their Sports Communication Program. David played four years of lacrosse at Illinois State and was the president of the club team while there. David is entering his second year coaching at Deerfield High School and has also coached youth with the Deerfield Youth Lacrosse Club and Bloomington Warriors Lacrosse Club. He has previously served as Editor-in-Chief at the Loop Sports, Senior Columnist at On Tap Sports Net where he wrote about the Bulls, White Sox and Bears, and a contributor at FutureSox.
