Recapping the top MLL draft picks from the past 20 years

Mike Powell was selected #1 overall in the 2004 draft, but fans would have to wait a year before they saw him join the MLL.

2004

Mike Powell – Baltimore Bayhawks

Mike, or Mikey Powell, was the youngest of the famous Powell brothers to be drafted into Major League Lacrosse. Powell scored 307 points at Syracuse University, where he won two Tewaaraton awards and two national championships. Powell sat out a year after his senior season opting instead to pursue a career in music. He eventually joined the Bayhawks in 2005 and along with players like Gary Gait, Mark Millon and Trevor Tierney, won a MLL championship. He was eventually traded to Boston where he played two seasons before deciding to pursue a music career with his band, The Black River.

Ryan Boyle – Rochester Rattlers

Ryan Boyle scored 232 points at Princeton University before going second overall to the Rochester Rattlers. While in the MLL, Boyle scored 172 points across six seasons for the Philadelphia Barrage and Boston Cannons and won three MLL championships. He also had a highly successful seven-year career in the National Lacrosse League. Boyle currently serves as the NBC Analyst during Premier Lacrosse League broadcasts.

2005

Kyle Harrison – New Jersey Pride

Kyle Harrison had a highly successful career at Johns Hopkins University where he scored 126 points in four seasons. After being selected first overall by the New Jersey Pride, Harrison went on to become one of the greatest players in professional field lacrosse history. In eleven professional seasons, Harrison has scored more than 200 points and won an MLL Championship. Harrison currently plays for Redwoods LC in the PLL.

Jed Prossner – Philadelphia Barrage

At North Carolina, Jed Prossner was second on his team in points his senior season. He made three ACC all-conference teams. Prossner played six seasons in MLL after being selected second overall out of North Carolina. Prossner recorded 71 points across his six seasons, appearing in the playoffs twice.

David played four years of lacrosse at Illinois State and was the president of the club team while there. David is entering his second year coaching at Deerfield High School and has also coached youth with the Deerfield Youth Lacrosse Club and Bloomington Warriors Lacrosse Club. He has previously served as Editor-in-Chief at the Loop Sports, Senior Columnist at On Tap Sports Net where he wrote about the Bulls, White Sox and Bears, and a contributor at FutureSox.
