On May 4, Major League Lacrosse (MLL) is holding its 20th college draft, so Pro Lacrosse Talk decided to take a look back at the top two picks from every MLL college draft since the league’s inception.
2001
Ryan Mollett – Rochester Rattlers
Ryan Mollett holds the distinction as being the first player every selected in an MLL draft. Mollett was coming off of a distinguished college career in which he was named a two-time all IVY league selection and won two national championships. Mollett did not disappoint professionally, as he would go on to play seven seasons, including an All-Star appearance in 2003. Mollett now serves as a financial executive at Angelo Gordon.
Trevor Tierney – New Jersey Pride
Trevor Tierney was the first field goalie ever selected at the professional level. Tierney played in four NCAA tournaments, winning two national championships in the process, and won four Ivy League titles as well. At the professional level, Tierney was a three-time all-star and 2005 MLL Champion before retiring in 2007.
