The Premier Lacrosse League followed up Wednesday’s PLL Championship Series announcement with an announcement Thursday regarding plans for their 2020 College Draft.
The College Draft was originally scheduled for April 21, but was rescheduled after the COVID-19 pandemic caused uncertainty regarding the status of many of the draft eligible college seniors. The draft is now scheduled to take place May 13 and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network at 7pm ET.
The draft will be two rounds with 14 total players being selected. The league has yet to announce the pool of players that will be available to be selected. They did announce the guidelines for eligibility, stating that only players that are graduating and not returning to school for an extra year of college lacrosse will be eligible to be drafted. This suggests that players such as TD Ierlan, who went first overall in Monday’s MLL Draft, and Michael Sowers, will not be drafted.
The draft was originally scheduled to be four rounds, but with the uncertainty surrounding the eligibility of players to be selected and the shortened PLL season, the league decided to shorten it to two rounds and revert all traded picks to the 2021 PLL College Draft. This decision specifically affects Chaos LC, who acquired a second round draft pick from Redwoods LC in the Sergio Salcido and Myles Jones trade. Coach Andy Towers and Chaos LC will instead acquire Redwoods LC’s second rounder in the 2021 draft and other teams who swapped later round draft picks intended for the 2020 draft will do so as well.
