The National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced on Thursday that it would suspend the 2020 season temporarily until concerns with the global coronavirus pandemic have subsided.
“The National Lacrosse League has determined that it is in the best interests of our fans, our players, our coaches and our staff to temporarily suspend play until further notice due to concerns over COVID-19. We will continue to evaluate this situation and remain in constant communication with health, team, business and league officials across North America. Security and safety is our top priority and focus in these challenging and unprecedented times, and we will continue to provide updates on resumption and rescheduling of play as they are determined.”

The Professional Lacrosse Players Association (PLPA) also announced that they are in continuous communication with the league and will keep their members updated with any further developments.
The news comes on the heels of the NBA’s announcement that they were suspending their 2019-20 season and the NHL announced it was suspending its season shortly after. Additionally, many college athletic programs have cancelled their lacrosse programs’ spring 2020 seasons putting the entire NCAA lacrosse season in jeopardy.
As of publication, no timetable to resume NLL play has been given. Since the NLL shares arenas with many NBA and NHL teams, future decisions will likely be made in conjunction with the other sports leagues.
