Moment of the Decade: Adam Jones’s 6-goal fourth quarter in 2016

To recap a monumental decade of pro lacrosse, Pro Lacrosse Talk enlisted members of the lacrosse community to recount the top moments in pro lacrosse from 2010 to 2019. This article was published as part of the “Top Pro Lacrosse Moments of the Decade” series.

As I watched what I believe to be the most sensational stretch of lacrosse in National Lacrosse League history, let alone, this past decade, it became increasingly challenging to do my job as an NLL Highlight Editor.

Adam Jones has had an incredible career as a dynamic scorer in the NLL, but when he racked-up a sock-trick (six goals in a game) — all in the fourth quarter — to carry his Colorado teammates to a dramatic and unbelievable 11-10 victory back in 2016, it was even hard for him to comprehend.

“It was one of those times where I was shooting, and it was going in,” Jones said. “A few of them were lucky, a few of them went in the right spot, but it was definitely one of the highlights of my career so far.”

It wasn’t just the fact that Jones scored a sock-trick in one quarter that made this one of the most memorable NLL games I’ve ever seen, it was the way he did it.

In the span of 12:32, Jones scored all of his goals. Five of his tallies were consecutive scores and brought the Mammoth back from a 9-4 deficit to a tie game. Jones, like most of the Mammoth, hadn’t scored for most of the game, but, as he explained, he felt compelled to keep firing on net.

“It’s hard to explain,” Jones said. “It was one of those nights where I thought, ‘I’m just going to shoot and see if it works’ and it did.”

Not only did Jones’ phenomenal stretch give the Mammoth the win that night, but he also set records for the most goals scored in a fourth quarter (six) and set a record for the fastest hat-trick (27 seconds).

This was one of the most remarkable moments in sports history and I will never forget it.

Watch the highlight below to relive Adam Jones’ sixth goal that would give him a “sock-trick” and win the game for the Colorado Mammoth.
