Thomas McConvey, Virginia (Midfield/Attack)
Best Landing Spots: Redwoods, Chaos, Archers
There’s been a lot of smoke around Virginia midfielder Thomas McConvey and Redwoods. Head Coach Nat St. Laurent said the team has its eyes on guys already drafted to the National Lacrosse League.
McConvey was selected first overall by the Rochester Knighthawks in September. It’s not very hard to read these particular tea leaves.
Aside from the smoke, the gifted lefty attacker would be a strong fit for Redwoods as the offense reshapes around new offensive coordinator John Grant Jr. Woods added several players with box experience in free agency, and McConvey would give Junior another skilled young lefty to build around alongside Charlie Bertrand.
Anytime there’s a talented Canadian, Chaos will always be a potential landing spot. The left side is pretty well stocked with Josh Byrne, Chris Cloutier and others, but McConvey is the best Canadian offensive player in the draft and Andy Towers has the draft pick surplus to trade up if there’s a team willing to trade with him.
Archers could also be in play for McConvey with the fifth overall pick. Chris Bates has a strong crop of lefties in tow already, but Archers are no strangers to box-style attackers and Archers assistant coach Brian Kavanagh has experience with the lefty during McConvey’s time at Vermont. There’s not as much need here, but he could be a strong system fit.
