Archers defeat Chrome in first ever PLL game

Archers vs Chrome

The Archers got the season started with a bang when faceoff specialist Stephen Kelly won the opening faceoff and took it all the way to the house for a fast break goal. The Archers would go up 4-0 to start, but the Chrome would claw their way back and pull within two goals before the end of the first half.

The Archers got the season started with a bang when faceoff specialist Stephen Kelly won the opening faceoff and took it all the way to the house for a fast break goal. The Archers would go up 4-0 to start, but the Chrome would claw their way back and pull within two goals before the end of the first half.

The Archers’ 6-4 lead wouldn’t last long as the Chrome came out in the third quarter and quickly tied it 6-6. Both teams would exchange goals before ending the third 10-10. The Chrome would go up 12-10 early in the fourth, but the Archers pulled within one thanks to a Marcus Holman hat trick goal with just seven minutes remaining. Then with time winding down, Ben McIntosh tied the game 12-12 with a 14-yard rip from just inside the arc. The first game in PLL history needed an extra period to be decided as the Archers and Chrome remained tied 12-12 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, Justin Guterding unleashed a shot that barely hit off the pipe and gave the Archers possession. Not long after a disallowed Archers’ goal and a few big time saves from both Chrome goalie John Galloway and Archers net minder Adam Ghitelman, Will Manny unleashed the game-winning goal to give the Archers the victory.

The Chrome (0-1) will take on the Whipsnakes next weekend at 1PM on June 8 at Red Bull Arena (Harrison, NJ) followed by the Archers LC (1-0) against the Redwoods at 4PM.

Archers 13, Chrome 12
