Matt McMahon signs with Atlas LC
Stock in the Atlas—more specifically their defense—has been rising consistently since 2019. The addition of Michael Rexrode and plenty of strong SSDMs, as well as a strong year in cage for Jack Concannon after injury, provide a strong core moving forward for interim head coach Steven Brooks or whoever ends up being named head coach full-time. With the potential retirement of field commander Tucker Durkin looming with his contract expiring, the Atlas would need a suitable, veteran replacement if Durkin does retire or signs elsewhere.
They might be able to find that in Archers defender Matt McMahon.
McMahon has helped the Archers have the lowest regular season scores against average in two of the three full seasons of the PLL. In an interview with Pro Lacrosse Talk, McMahon discussed that professional defensive play is a mental game and using film to prepare and dissect different offenses’ goals is essential. His attitude towards the defensive end and skill set make him a perfect fit for solidifying an Atlas defense that is building up to be a short-term championship contender.
