Eddy Glazener Signs with Atlas LC
Why It Should Happen: The Atlas have had back-to-back seasons of disappointment in the postseason, but are still one of the top teams in the league with a young core—making them a prime destination for any free agent. If new Atlas head coach Mike Pressler wants to make a splash, adding a free agent defender would be the way to do it.
If Pressler decides to let Tucker Durkin walk in free agency, Glazener would be a prime replacement. Glazener commands the Redwoods defense acting as almost an on-field coach and field general… sounds a bit like Durkin doesn’t it? Adding Glazener to a defense that already has Michael Rexrode as its top cover guy and versatile poles in Craig Chick and Koby Smith would make the Atlas one of the top defensive units in the league.
It’s also potentially the Atlas’ only hole heading into this season. Their attack is already set, they have the league’s best faceoff specialist and their deep midfield will get even deeper if they draft Penn’s Sam Handley like every one expects. If Coach Pressler can make the signing work within the salary cap, signing Glazener could be the last final piece.
Why It Won’t Happen: Glazener is the cornerstone of this defense and should be the highest priority signing for the Redwoods. While it’s fun to imagine Glazener on another team, rest assured Redwoods fans that St. Laurent and Co. will be doing all they can to re-sign the top free agent defender available in this year’s class.
