Chrome LC has two equally as important and impactful headlines this offseason:
Brendan Nichtern could miss the majority of the 2023 season due to his military commitments. Chrome knew this when they drafted their future All-Star, Rookie of the Year, and quarterback at X in the 2022 PLL Draft. Nichtern helped the Chrome go from preseason dumpster to postseason darling.
Chrome LC selected Sam Handley with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 PLL Draft. Handley was regarded by many to be the best prospect in the 2023 draft. At 6’5” and 230lb, he enters the league with dominant athletic ability and an outside shot that will make goalies shudder. He will fit right in with midfield teammates Colin Heacock (6’3”), Kevin Rogers (6’4”), Cole Williams (6’5”), Jordan MacIntosh (6’2”) and Jesse King (6’3”).
The biggest question for Chrome will be how the offense will function without Brendan Nichtern. Possible replacements could be proven attack commodity Jackson Morrill or newcomers Jack Myers and Cross Ferrara. We could also Chrome shift to more of a 2-2-2 righty/lefty approach that has been pioneered and championed by Chaos. Chrome already plays an unselfish brand of offense, and while they might take a tiny step back without Nichtern, the amount of depth and style of play will allow this offense to hang with anyone.
Chrome is returning rock-solid offensive and defensive midfield units, with only LSM changes being youthful adds of Hettinger and Geppert. No major changes for the league’s third most efficient close defense and Sconone holding it down in cage as always. If Chrome LC does not achieve one of the more prime playoff seedings, it would be a disappointment.
