2022 PLL Fantasy Lacrosse Recap: Week 1

After a wild first week that saw its fair share of injuries as well as missing players due to the NLL finals, let’s take a look at the fantasy stats from the first week of the PLL’s Player Royale fantasy lacrosse game!

Top Players of PLL Week 1

After watching the Atlas and the Cannons light up their respective score boards, it will be no surprise to see that they are the only teams in the top five relative to fantasy lacrosse points. Jeff Teat came out swinging by scoring five goals on his way to a 31-point fantasy outing to start the season off with a bang and earn an early seat in the top spot. Nick Marrocco’s 19-save performance landed him in the number two spot at 30 points and Eric Law rounded out the top three with 29 points off of his seven-point outing. Next we have Lyle Thompson at 28 points thanks to his 4-goal showing. Trevor Baptiste locked up the fifth spot after going 17-10 at the stripe and getting the crowd on its feet with a massive two-point goal to cap off an amazing opening weekend.

Notable Standouts from PLL Week 1

Eli Salama is the first name that jumped off the sheet. The LSM for the Chrome ended the week at number seven overall with 21 fantasy points after filling out almost every column in the stat sheet. He had one ground ball, one caused turnover, one assist and a two-point goal. Jules Heningburg fell just shy of the top five with 24 points this week. Though he had a strong performance with four goals and five ground balls, the three turnovers (-6 points) he was credited with dropped him out of the top. Finally, I think we can all admit that when Blaze came out of the season opener with 18 points off his 13-save game, he was an early favorite for goalie of the week. However, we all know he was dethroned on day two of the season, but it was still a performance worth mentioning.

Defensive Performances from PLL Week 1

Without being able to select an entire defense like in other fantasy sport formats, I wanted to find a way to see where the edge may be for offensive players. To do that, I broke down how many fantasy points defenses allowed and scored across the league. The Whipsnakes had the most stout performance defensively, only allowing 51.2 fantasy points to the Chaos. However, the Chaos weren’t far behind, only allowing the Whipsnakes to score 57.8 fantasy points. It was obvious the Redwoods had their hands full with the Atlas, so it is no surprise to see them at the bottom of the list after allowing a whopping 154.6 fantasy points. The Cannons defense scored 58 fantasy points as a unit in Week 1, lead by Marrocco (31) and Jake Pulver (11). Ben Randall of the Waterdogs lead the league on defense, scoring 13 fantasy points of his own, highlighted by two caused turnovers and a goal.

PLL week two should be just as exciting as we get to see the top two fantasy teams face off against each other when the Atlas take on the Cannons. Will Jeff Teat and Lyle Thompson finish atop the leaderboard once again? Are the Redwoods going to be able to bounce back against the Chrome after their poor defensive outing in week one? Stay tuned for our PLL week two preview and Don’t forget to set your lineups and challenge your friends to PLL Player Royale!
